A broker specializing in stocks and shares. In the United Kingdom stockbrokers, must be members of one of the official Stock Exchanges. They may act as intermediary between the public and the stockjobber, and from 1986 may also buy and sell on their own account. When acting for a member of the public the stockbroker becomes the agent of that person and charges a commission for the service rendered. Lists of stockbrokers may be obtained on application to the Stock Exchange.
