Share hawking

At one time it was possible to hawk shares from door to door, but nowadays nobody may deal in securities or shares unless they are licensed dealers or exempt dealers.

Exempt dealers are (1) members of recognized Stock Exchanges or recognized associations of dealers in securities; (2) the Bank of England; (3) Statutory or municipal corporations; (4) trustees of authorized unit trusts. Licensed dealers obtain licences annually from the Department of Trade and Industry on leaving a fixed deposit. The Department of Trade and Industry has made rules to which dealers must conform regarding issuing books and forms of contract notes.
