The reward given to persons who save, in part or whole, a ship or its cargo from shipwreck. The person rendering assistance must show that he did so voluntarily, that there was danger involved and that he showed enterprise, that the ship was in need of help and that some benefit did arise from what he did. Salvage money cannot be claimed by those already responsible for the care of the ship. The reward is given by the owners of the ship and cargo.
