Reputed owner

The person who appears to be the owner of property even though it may in fact belong to some other party. The phrase has a particular meaning in bankruptcy: if A has allowed B possession of goods knowing that third parties might assume B to be true owner of them, then A may be estopped from denying this if B were to go bankrupt.
