Reputation, loss of

Generally speaking, in the law of contract, damages are not available for loss of reputation. However, a banker may be sued by an account holder for loss of reputation if he returns to drawer a cheque when there are funds to meet it. There is also the question of the reputation a contract itself would have brought an actor suing for breach of a contract for a leading part may obtain damages for the loss of the prospective reputation.
