Price control

Direct intervention by the government to keep prices stable during an emergency situation. There was an extensive and complex system of price control in the United Kingdom during the Second World War. Intervention may also be made necessary by runaway inflation. Price con¬ troll is a remedy rather than a cure and is used normally on a short-term basis only.
