On stream

A term commonly used nowadays to refer to the fact that a particular asset acquired or investment made has begun to earn its keep either, in the case of plant, by being made fully operative or, in the case of some other investment, by being finalized and beginning to bring in an income. The phrase is borrowed from the electrical energy generating world, particularly nuclear energy, where a power plant is said to be brought on stream when it has been linked in with the national grid system
